Intellectual Property

Currently, MariCal possesses 35 issued United States and international patents as well as additional patent applications and issued patents and published applications owned by the Brigham and Women's Hospital and licensed by MariCal. These patent filings are augmented by multiple patent disclosures and know how that provides the Company with its proprietary knowledge-based platform.

The Company's intellectual property portfolio includes three separate groups of patents and patent applications that together provide for ownership of the Company's technologies. These three groups of patents and patent applications are outlined as follows:

  • MariCal Cross-Licensing Agreement with NPS Pharmaceuticals.
    MariCal has a Cross-License Agreement with NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the first company to license broad patent rights to mammalian CaSRs following their discovery by MariCal co-founders when they were faculty members of Harvard Medical School and its affiliated medical research hospitals. Under this Agreement, NPS granted to MariCal a worldwide exclusive license under NPS Patent Rights and NPS Know-How for calcium receptor applications to mammalian and non-mammalian species utilized for food production or companion animals.
  • MariCal's licensing of Brigham and Women's Hospital Patents Pertaining To Aquatic CaSRs.
    Upon founding of MariCal, Brigham and Women's Hospital (a Harvard Medical School Affiliate) granted a paid-up, worldwide, exclusive license to MariCal for discoveries relating to the structures and functions of aquatic CaSRs based on the research of the Company's co-founders.

  • MariCal's U.S. and Foreign Patents and Patent Applications.
    MariCal has filed and prosecuted both U.S. and international patent applications for its CaSR-based technologies for both terrestrial and aquatic applications.
